Psychotherapy,
Bodywork,
MBLEx Tutoring,
& Brain MRI
Offering psychotherapy.
I offer psychotherapy at Modern Therapy Group, where I see couples and individual counseling clients on-line. I think about health and happiness mostly through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS): an affirming, evidence-based approach to what is sometimes called “parts work”. Through supervision arrangements I am able to see clients residing in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Connecticut, and California. Click here for scheduling.
Offering bodywork.
With precautions for COVID-19 transmission, I offer bodywork in the professional clinic of the Florida School of Massage, where I am also an instructor (Florida Department of Health #MA80375). Click here for scheduling.
Offering MBLEx tutoring.
I offer Zoom-based tutoring to help massage and bodywork students prepare for their MBLEx licensure exam. Click here for scheduling.
Available for neuroimaging analysis and consultation.
I have 20 years of experience using human brain imaging to investigate the neural correlates of typical development, aging, neurodegenerative disease, psychiatric conditions, and individual differences in language and cognition. I have designed and executed most components of human brain MRI studies for USA NIH- and VA-sponsored research, and have enjoyed working with a range of adult and child patients in clinical and research settings (CV for details). Email me to discuss remote contract work, or in-person work in Gainesville, Florida and Vienna, Austria.
Current Projects
Florida Psychotherapy Licensure
I am transitioning to Florida’s counseling licensure from my original training in clinical and health psychology (neuropsychology focus). Two masters programs’ coursework completed. Adult and child clinical psychology practicums completed. Happy to now be seeing telehealth psychotherapy clients at Modern Therapy Group as a pre-licensed professional.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) in bodywork and bodywork education
I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS): a non-pathologizing emotional and cognitive model that recognizes our deep need for safety. It facilitates awareness of protective reflexes and invites the integration of those reflexes in more supportive forms. As a bodyworker I am interested in clients’ experience of safety, as well as the ways that pain and pain relief are influenced by our innate protective reflexes. I’m currently exploring how IFS principles can be integrated into bodywork and bodywork instruction.
COVID-19 White Matter Damage
An October 2020 review of the COVID-19 case literature found that brain MRIs from COVID-19 patients show more white matter damage than expected for patient age. During my 2011 masters thesis I developed a tool for semi-automated creation of 3D maps of these T2 FLAIR white matter hyperintensities (WMHI). I am available to train researchers who would like to perform this lesion mapping in COVID-19 patients. I am also available to remotely perform the lesion mapping myself, and can assist with the pipeline for image deidentification and transfer. Email me if you would like to collaborate.
